RANGE POLYPHENYLSULFONE - PPSU -

Characteristics of the PPSU

SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS

Very good thermal stability.

Exceptional hardness.

Superior resistance to steam and boiling water.

Good stability of electrical properties.

Good chemical resistance.

Resistant to combustion without additives.

PPSU has very good resistance to water, and

exceptional hydrolysis resistance.

Steam sterilisation is practically unlimited.

United States Pharmacopoeia – PPSU is

compliant with the conditions of Class VI and is

therefore appropriate for use in Class II as well as

medical devices in Class III.

PPSU has good electrical properties, practically

identical to PSU.

Good dielectric constant, which remains stable over the frequency range.

SPECIFIC PROPERTIES

Good shear strength.

Exceptional impact resistance, Izod impact

resistance of 690 J/m.

PPSU has astonishingly good creep resistance,

even with increased temperatures.

Good notch resistance, superior to

Polycarbonate.

Glass transition temperature (Tg) of 220°C.

Very good thermal stability, there is no significant

weight loss above 410°C, which is 50°C hotter

than its moulding temperature.

Good resistance to thermal ageing.

Heat conductivity of PPSU is 0.35 W/mK.

PPSU resists well against caustic aqueous

solutions.

It resists well against chlorinated hydrocarbons.

Although PPSU demonstrates some resistance to

Ketones and ethers, it should not be used for

continuous, prolonged use.

PPSU is not seriously affected by organic

chemicals, except by ketones.

Of the inorganic chemicals, only concentrated

strong acids have a harmful effect.

Of the common functional fluids tested, only Skydrol 500A makes PPSU brittle.
